War in the Middle East
What is happening?! I have not been able to post anything because the world has gone crazy. It appears to me that we are on the brink of disaster.
What has and is happening in Iraq is criminal. The whole world knows the U.S. was wrong to invade Iraq. But now the madness that is going on in Lebanon is unbelievable and there is no one to stop it from spreading to the rest of the Middle East. I am stunned, shocked, and dismayed by the events that are unfolding as I write this posting.
Here are some of today’s headlines from the Democracy Now! website:
- 72 Die In Lebanon In Deadliest Day of Israeli Attack
- U.S. Rejects Lebanese PM’s Appeal For Immediate Ceasefire
- Report: Israel Weighing Ground Invasion
- Israel Drops 23 Tons Of Bombs On Suspected Hezbollah Bunker
- Death Toll in Lebanon Reaches 330; 500,000 Displaced
- UN: Children Account for One-Third of Casualties
- Questions Raised Over U.S. Evacuation Efforts
Haven’t we learned that war is not a game with winners and losers? EVERYONE loses when there is armed conflict in the world. Everyone, that means you and me and the rest of the planet.
This MUST STOP! A ceasefire must be put in place IMMEDIATELY! Shame on the U.S. for rejecting the Lebanese PM’s appeal for immediate ceasefire. Shame on Israel for attacking and killing innocent civilians, women and children. And shame again on all of us for letting this situation escalate.
I don’t have the words to describe the gravity of this situation.
If we love this world. If we believe in the sanctity of all life. Then we have a moral obligation to stop this madness.
Please contact your congressional representatives immediately. Let them know this aggression must stop now.
With much sorrow,
Swan

Hey ,
it might be worth considering that this is not OUR war, that “we” are only invoked by the government when it suits the purposes of those who weild the power, that the US is not a democracy(likely never has been, but is blatantly not now), and that the endless war is being promoted by the corporations/governments to reap huge profits, by creating terrible chaos(known as opportunity in the world of high finance). “We” pay tribute to the government in the form of taxes. If we don’t, we are severely punished–our livelihoods are stolen from us, and we are imprisoned.
The assumption of responsibility without authority drives people mad, as it is meant to. I refuse to take responsibility for terrible cruelties I have absolutely no control over, perpetrated by people who know exactly what they’re doing, and using us and our goodwill cynically. That said, I will continue to do everything I can to let others know about the falsity of the endless, widening wars. I’ll be standing on the corner by the Post Office this evening, witnessing for peace, as we have done for the past four years.
Stay cool–how hot is it there? It’s 90 here this afternoon, but will soon fog up, but I got to wear my silk lava-lava from Molokai this afternoon, lolling with the cats in the garden.
Australia was beautiful, Chris the consummate host. We bushwalked into her favorite places in the Blue Mountains, where she was born. And she is a gourmet cook–felt like a baby bird with my mouth open, waiting… The world really is a wonderful place. More later–
Love and peace,
Sue S

Hi Sue,
Glad to hear you had a lovely time with Chris. You make some good points in your comments. Even though you and I are not involved in this agression, we can’t sit on the side lines when the whole world is teetering on the edge of destruction. We have to act. The hard thing is figuring out what to do that will be effective.
Peace,
Swan
