Communicating with the Divine

I have been working on this posting for over a week.  There were so many topics I wanted to discuss on this blog that it was hard to know where to begin.  Since I was having difficutly deciding on what I wanted to communicate, I came to the conclusion that communication might be a good place to start.

As a spiritual person I have had a personal relationship with my Divine Source for several years but recently found myself wanting to create a deeper connection.   About two weeks ago I began a daily spiritual practice of communing with the Goddess each morning. 

In the morning I sit for at least 20 minutes at the feet of my shrine to the Great Mother.  During my practice I start off by acknowledging her presence and giving thanks for all the gifts she has bestowed on me both large and small.  For example, I thank her for the air I breathe and for enjoying a day gardening.  I thank her for a car that runs well and for the morning sunshine.  I thank her until I become silent having run out of things to say.

After I have finished thanking her I ground myself.  I then visualize letting go and sending into the earth any behaviors or beliefs that are no longer serving me on my path.  After that I pull energy up from the earth into my body and activate each of my chakras.  I continue by sending the energy I have raised out of the top of my head into the sky and then letting it fall back to the earth, so that I am sitting in a sphere of energy.  To balance myself, I also take some of that earth and sky energy and swirl them together in my heart chakra.

I started my daily practice on the advice of my teacher, Kathy Jones of Glastonbury, England <http://www.kathyjones.co.uk/>.  Kathy is a Priestess of Avalon and a co-founder of the Glastonbury Goddess Temple <http://www.goddesstemple.co.uk/>. She is also a very wise woman.  She instructed me that once I started, “things would begin to happen.” 

I have to say I didn’t believe her at first, but she was right.  As I have open myself systematically to Spirit, she has come into my life and begun to communicate with me.  The information I have received has been startlingly specific.  One of things I was instructed by Spirit to do was to start this website.

Some of you may wonder what I mean when I say She communicates with me.  I can describe it as having a thought or idea appear in my mind that was not there before.  You may now be wondering how I am able to know the message was from the Divine Source and not something I just thought up myself.  This is a very good question and one I have asked myself when these communications first began to materialize.

How I was able to discern that this information was not of my making was that it appeared to be attached to a feeling of tension in my throat.  When the thought first appeared that I should create a website, I dismissed it as just an idle thought.  I reasoned that I did not have time to keep up with a web site, and also that I did not have the skills to do it.  I basically came to the decision that it would not be a good idea for me to do and so I dismissed the idea.  And that’s when it happened.  I got this pinching feeling in my throat, a sharp pain actually.  The strange thing about this pain was it went away when I said outloud that I would create a website. 

I had the same thing happen about a week later when I decided I wanted to learn swordmanship.  The idea popped into my head while I was meditating.  When I dismissed the idea as childish, I again felt a pinching in my throat.  When I said I was going to sign up for sword fighting lessons outloud the pain went away.  A day later I went down to a local Dojo that offers Eishin-ryu Iaido (sword) and signed up to study  with them.    

Using tension in the body as an indication of which direction to take is just one way that Spirit or your Higher Self can communicate with you.  There are many others. If you would like to learn more about how communication with the Divine works, I recommend that you listen to Caroline Myss’ Advanced Energy Anatomy audio program, which can be found at your local bookstore or ordered through Amazon.com.
